Hornbeam

Hornbeam is a single-storey one-bedroom cottage at Trewithen Farm, Laneast, sleeping two with one bathroom. Underfloor heating runs throughout, and the layout is entirely on one level - no stairs. The garden has a fire pit that comes into its own on clear moor evenings when Bodmin Moor's dark skies make for decent stargazing. Wi-Fi and private parking are included. No pets.

Altarnun village, about 3 miles from the cottage, has a medieval church known locally as the Cathedral of the Moors. The nearest pub is 2 miles away. Launceston - a market town with a Norman castle and reasonable supermarkets - sits around 15 minutes east by road. Bodmin is roughly 20 minutes west.

Crackington Haven, the nearest beach, is 14.7km - a dramatic cove between tall slate cliffs on the north Cornwall coast, popular with walkers on the South West Coast Path.

This suits a couple wanting a quiet, low-maintenance base for moorland walking and day trips into north Cornwall. Good for walkers or anyone looking for an off-season escape with reliable heating. Less good for guests wanting coastal proximity - the north Cornwall beaches are a genuine 30-minute drive, and there are no on-site facilities beyond the garden.
