Altarnun sits at around 260 metres elevation on the moor's edge. The village church, St Nonna's, is known locally as the Cathedral of the Moors and is one of the largest parish churches in Cornwall. Brown Willy and Rough Tor, Cornwall's two highest points, are accessible on foot across open moorland to the west. Launceston, with its Norman castle and market, is about 15 minutes east by road.

Crackington Haven Beach is the nearest coast at 14.7km - a remote, surf-exposed cove on the north Cornish coast. Millook Beach is 16.1km. The distance from the sea is the defining trade-off of this property: the moor setting is the draw, not the beach.

Best for couples who want a rural, moorland retreat with a real fire pit and underfloor heating for shoulder-season or winter breaks. Good for walkers and those interested in the moorland landscape, geology, and the dark sky conditions this part of Cornwall offers. Suits solo travellers comfortable in remote rural settings. Not right for anyone who wants to be within a short drive of reliable surf or a busy coastal resort. Less good for summer beach holidays where the distance to the coast becomes a daily inconvenience.
