Old Coastguard Cottage

Old Coastguard Cottage is a three-bedroom cottage in Downderry on Cornwall's south-east coast, sleeping five above the village beach. The kitchen and sitting room both look across Whitsand Bay, with the sea filling the windows on a clear day.

Three bedrooms share a single bathroom, so it works best for a family rather than two adult couples needing separate facilities. The sitting room has an open fire for cooler evenings. The kitchen is fully fitted with a dishwasher and washing machine, and the layout includes accessible features on the ground floor. Wifi runs throughout. Dogs are welcome.

The garden sits directly above the beach with outdoor seating angled at the view, and parking is on site. Downderry beach is a short walk down, south-facing and a mile of sand at low tide. The Inn on the Shore pub is five minutes on foot for fish and chips overlooking the water. The South West Coast Path runs through the village - east 3 miles to Portwrinkle and Whitsand Bay, west via Seaton beach to Looe (5 miles).

Best for families wanting a quiet sea-view base with a dog. Less good for two couples needing two bathrooms, or anyone after surf - the south-facing bay is calm rather than rolling.
