Palm View Downderry

Palm View Downderry is a two-bedroom apartment in Downderry, a quiet clifftop village on Cornwall's south-east coast, sleeping four. Downderry Beach - a south-facing sandy cove that stays calm enough for swimming - is 500m away on foot. Dogs are not accepted. The apartment has private parking and a terrace for outdoor dining.

The two bedrooms sleep four: one double and one bunk room, with the bunk suitable for one adult and one child or two children. A single bathroom serves both rooms. The apartment has wi-fi, a washer/dryer and a garden. There is no dishwasher.

Downderry is a small village: a pub, a village shop, and access to the South West Coast Path in both directions. Head east along the coast path toward Seaton for easy walking over flat clifftops, or west toward Looe through more dramatic terrain. Plaidy Beach, a quieter mixed sand-and-shingle cove, is 3 miles; East Looe Beach is 3.7 miles along the coast. The Monkey Sanctuary at Murrayton, an unusual family day out, sits a few miles inland from the village.

Looe, with its working fish quay, independent shops, and restaurants, is around 3.7 miles west. Plymouth is roughly 30 minutes away across the Tamar Bridge.

Best for: families or groups wanting a calm beach base on the south coast away from the crowds. Less good for: guests needing a dishwasher.
