Tregardock Beach, a remote and wild stretch accessible via a steep cliff path, is 5.2 miles. Polzeath beach, a broad surfing bay popular with families, is 6.6 miles and has a surf school on the sand. The Rock and Padstow ferry crossing is within range for a day across the Camel estuary.

Best for families or small groups with dogs who want a mid-north Cornwall base with access to both quieter coves and busier surf beaches. The St Kew area has a pub, farm shop, and a short drive covers most of the north coast. Less good for guests without a car - everything here requires driving.
