The Boat House Roundhouse, East Thorne

The Boat House Roundhouse is a circular lodge at the East Thorne resort just outside Bude, sleeping 4 across 2 bedrooms. The distinctive roundhouse design sets it apart from a standard cottage - the layout curves around a central living space with an industrial-style finish, underfloor heating, and both a wood burner and an open fire for year-round warmth. Dogs are welcome.

Inside, the kitchen and dining area sit open-plan alongside the sitting room. Outside, a private garden with BBQ and a dedicated hot tub make this a practical base whatever the weather. The resort itself adds shared facilities - a communal campfire area, games room, and volleyball net - meaning there is plenty to keep a family occupied without leaving the site. Summerleaze Beach is 600 metres away - Bude's main sandy beach with its famous tidal sea pool, safe for swimming in all conditions. Crooklets, the primary surf beach, is about 1 mile further. Bude town centre, with its surf schools, restaurants, and the 19th-century canal used for kayaking, is under a mile from the resort. The South West Coast Path runs in both directions from Bude's clifftops, giving access to over 30 miles of walking.

**Best for:** Families or two couples wanting a base with on-site extras, dog owners, surfers staying close to the break. **Less good for:** Those seeking total seclusion - East Thorne is a shared resort setting rather than an isolated rural property.
