The Calf House

The Calf House is a one-bedroom barn conversion for two, correctly classified as a barn rather than a cottage, near St Columb Major, the market town 6 miles inland from Newquay. Despite the Mawgan Porth postal address, the coast here is a drive rather than a walk. A king-size bedroom and one bathroom form a straightforward couples' layout.

The conversion retains rustic features and includes an electric wood burner-effect fire. A hot tub stands on the raised patio, with a garden beyond. Wi-Fi, parking, a dishwasher and a washer/dryer are included, and up to three dogs can stay. Equipment includes an electric oven and hob and a fridge with a freezer compartment.

Watergate Bay is 4.7 miles away, the two-mile stretch of sand known for consistent surf and beachfront dining at The Beach Hut. Whipsiderry Beach is 5.0 miles from the barn and Mawgan Porth's own beach, despite sharing the property's postal town, is 5.3 miles. St Columb Major itself has a 15th-century church, several pubs and the Screech Owl Sanctuary a mile south.

**Best for:** two guests wanting a king-size bed, hot tub, electric wood burner-effect fire, parking and room for three dogs. **Less good for:** beach-first stays, or guests needing step-free access.
