The Hayloft, St Just

The Hayloft is a two-bedroom cottage set in the hamlet of Kelynack, a short drive from St Just on the far western tip of Cornwall. It sleeps 4 across 2 en-suite bedrooms, making it well suited to two couples or a family who want to explore the land's-end mining coast without fighting for space.

Inside, a wood burner and open fire take the edge off Atlantic evenings, while a hot tub in the enclosed garden is the main draw for many guests - 94 reviews and counting attest to how often it gets used. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher and the property has Wi-Fi, a BBQ, and parking on site. No pets are accepted.

Priests Cove, the rocky inlet directly below Cape Cornwall, is about 1.5 miles away - a dramatic spot for a swim with the old mine stacks on the headland above. Gwynver Beach, a quieter Atlantic surf beach, is around 1.7 miles. The nearby Crowns engine houses at Botallack, perched on the cliffside above the sea as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, are worth the 10-minute drive. St Just's market square, with its independent shops and two pubs, is less than a mile.

Best for: couples or two-couple groups who want dramatic west Cornwall scenery, a post-walk soak in a hot tub, and a base for the mining coast. Less good for: families with young children (no pool, no beach within walking distance), dog owners.
