Hillside cottage directly above Lamorna Cove

The Magazine is a converted quarry dynamite store for four, built into the cliffside directly above Lamorna Cove on the Penwith peninsula's south coast. One king-size bedroom and one twin share a single bathroom, a traditional Cornish cottage layout rather than a modern build.

Sea and coastline views run from the cottage, and sub-tropical gardens hold several spots for sunrise, sunset or an outdoor meal. A wood burner, Wi-Fi, parking, a dishwasher and a washing machine are included, and one dog is welcome. The steep, terraced setting and single bathroom are worth noting for guests with limited mobility.

Lamorna Cove sits at the foot of the garden. Mousehole Beach is 1.9 miles away along the coast path, and Penberth Cove is 3 miles further. The valley was once an artists' colony - painter Samuel "Lamorna" Birch lived and worked here from 1902 - and the Merry Maidens stone circle stands half a mile inland. Lamorna itself has just the Lamorna Wink pub for food and drink, and Penzance, with its shops, station and seafront, is about four miles away for a bigger day out.

The Magazine holds a 4.6 out of 5 rating from 15 reviews.

**Best for:** A small group wanting sea views, quarry history and Lamorna Cove on the doorstep.

**Less good for:** Guests wanting more than one bathroom, level access or a barbecue.
