The Moorings

The Moorings is a detached three-bedroom house sleeping five at Bodinnick, the village across the estuary from Fowey (pronounced "Foy"). The setting is the draw - elevated above the Bodinnick car ferry slip, with views across the water to the harbour and the working china clay docks. Daphne du Maurier's first Fowey home, Ferryside, sits on the same waterfront.

A spacious double-glazed layout across three bedrooms with on-site parking, which matters here - Bodinnick has limited street space and the road down to the ferry is steep. The house sits a 2-minute walk above the slip; expect a brisk climb back up after evenings in town.

The Bodinnick car ferry runs every 15 minutes and crosses to Fowey in under 5 minutes, where Sam's on Fore Street, Appleton's and Pinky Murphy's pasties are all within a few hundred metres of the landing. The Hall Walk starts from the door - 4 miles around Pont Pill creek to Polruan, then the passenger ferry back to Fowey and the car ferry home. Readymoney Cove is 1.7km via the coast path on the Fowey side. The Eden Project sits 9 miles north.

Best for families who want river views, easy ferry access to Fowey, and a parking spot at the door. Less good for anyone with mobility limits - the hill down to the ferry is steep both ways.
