The Old Bakehouse, Looe

The Old Bakehouse is a one-bedroom apartment in West Looe on the south Cornwall coast, sleeping two. The property sits close to the West Looe harbourside in a quieter part of Looe than the busier East side. East Looe Beach is roughly a 15-minute walk over the Victorian bridge. The apartment welcomes dogs and has an accessible layout.

Inside, the single bedroom and bathroom open onto a combined living and kitchen area. Wi-Fi and a washing machine are provided - practical basics for a week's stay. The building takes its name from a former bakery on the same site.

West Looe has a different character from its twin across the river: the Jolly Sailor pub, reputedly the oldest in Looe, sits a short walk along the riverfront, alongside small cafes and independent shops. At high tide, a small passenger ferry crosses to East Looe rather than the bridge route. East Looe's fish quay still lands a daily catch, and the high street has enough restaurants and cafes to avoid cooking every night.

The South West Coast Path runs through the town. Heading west leads through woodland to Talland Bay (dog-friendly cove with a beach cafe) and on to Polperro around 6 miles. East of Looe, the path passes Plaidy and continues toward Rame Head. The Eden Project and Heligan are each within 45 minutes by car.

Best for: couples or solo travellers wanting harbour atmosphere without the East Looe crowds. Less good for: guests needing on-site parking - this is a town-centre property.
