Cutch

The Cutch is a one-bedroom couples' lodge at Belhay Farm, 3 miles inland from Looe. It sleeps two and holds a 5 Star Gold Award from Visit England - the highest grade the inspectorate awards self-catering. The lodge sits in its own corner of the owner's grounds, screened from the main farmhouse.

Inside, one bedroom and one bathroom are fitted out to a standard well above the price tag. Wifi, dishwasher, washing machine and accessible features are all included. The layout is contemporary and open-plan. Dogs are welcome with the run of the gardens.

Wrap-around decking circles the lodge, with a table for outdoor dining and mature planting on three sides. Private parking is outside the door. The setting feels secluded rather than rural-isolated - quiet but not remote.

Looe is eight minutes by car, with East Looe Beach sheltered by the Banjo Pier and a row of fish restaurants on the quay. Talland Bay - dog-friendly year-round, with two cafes - is a short drive west, and the harbour village of Polperro lies three miles further along the coast. The pub at Pelynt is within walking distance for a meal that doesn't need the car.

Best for: couples wanting genuine luxury at the price of a mid-range cottage, with a dog. Less good for families - one bedroom only, no children's facilities.
