The Old Granary

The Old Granary is a five-bedroom converted granary on Cant Farm, a private estate at Rock on the Camel Estuary. The house sleeps 11 across five bedrooms with four bathrooms - one of the largest self-catering options on the Rock side of the estuary. A wood burner and open fire make it a practical choice for shoulder-season visits as well as summer.

Inside, the cottage has a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, and a garden with BBQ for outdoor dining. Note there is no on-site parking, so guests use the village car park - worth factoring in if you're travelling with young children and heavy luggage. Dogs are not accepted.

Daymer Bay is 2.2 miles away - a sheltered sandy beach backed by dunes, with St Enodoc church (where John Betjeman is buried) in the dunes behind. Polzeath is 2.9 miles north with a consistent beach break good for surfing. The water taxi to Padstow runs every 20 minutes through the season, putting Rick Stein's restaurants and the harbour within easy reach without a drive.

Best for large multi-generational groups or two families looking to split costs - the house's size and the estate setting work well for a crowd. Less suitable for anyone who needs parking at the door, or who wants direct beach access on foot. Changeover day is Thursday.
