Downderry stone barn with sea views over fields
The Old Wagon House is a two-bedroom converted stone barn near Downderry on the south Cornwall coast, sleeping four with sea views over fields. Dating from the early 19th century, the sensitively converted detached property sits in a rural setting one mile inland from the coastal village of Downderry.
Inside, the layout covers two bedrooms with a kitchen and living area sized for a small family or two couples. The conversion preserves the character of the original barn while adding modern finishes. Dogs are welcome and private parking is included.
Outside, the property opens onto views down to the sea across open fields. A 15-minute walk downhill leads to the South West Coast Path and the sand and shingle beach at Downderry, where rock pools appear at low tide. The village amenities, including a cafe and pub, sit five minutes away by car. Downderry Beach is 0.8 miles away, Plaidy Beach 3.5 miles and East Looe Beach 4.1 miles.
The coast path leads west to Looe (8 miles) and east to Whitsand Bay. Inland, the Seaton Valley Countryside Park gives wooded walking. Looe has pleasure boat and fishing trips, there are several golf courses, and houses and gardens at Antony House and Mount Edgcumbe Country Park are within easy reach. Plymouth sits half an hour away and the Eden Project is a 40-minute drive. Changeover day is Saturday.
Nearby: Downderry Beach (0.8 miles) and Plaidy Beach (3.5 miles). See our Seaton guide for more beaches and walks in the area.
Best for couples or small families with a dog, given the private parking and sea views over the fields. Less suited to those without a car, since the village shop and pub sit a five-minute drive away rather than walking distance.
