The Piggery

The Piggery is a 1-bedroom cottage converted from an agricultural building on the edge of the National Trust’s Lanhydrock estate near Lostwithiel, sleeping 2. The open-plan interior retains exposed stone walls alongside a wood burner, making it a practical choice for autumn and winter stays.

The single king-size bedroom and 1 bathroom suit a couple. A private enclosed patio sits outside with space to sit, and a dedicated dog shower makes it straightforward for guests arriving with dogs. Parking for 1 car, a washing machine, and WiFi are included. The 2-star rated cottage is compact by design - not much wasted space.

Lanhydrock House is around 1 mile away on foot - a Victorian country house with 1,000 acres of woodland estate, open to National Trust members year-round. Lostwithiel town centre, known as Cornwall’s Antique Capital, is roughly 3.5 miles, with independent shops, a farmers’ market, and a well-regarded cafe scene. Readymoney Cove near Fowey - a small sandy beach sheltered by headlands - is about 7.8 miles. Restormel Castle, one of the best-preserved Norman keeps in Cornwall, is 2 miles north of Lostwithiel. The Eden Project is roughly 5 miles west.

**Best for:** Couples wanting a rural base close to National Trust walking, with dog-friendly trails and easy access to both Fowey and Lostwithiel.

**Less good for:** Groups of 3 or more, families with young children needing separate bedrooms, or guests expecting sea views - the nearest coast is a 20-minute drive.
