The Roost

The Roost is a one-bedroom cottage on Menifters Farm in Porthallow, a small fishing cove on the east coast of the Lizard. It sleeps two and has earned a 5-star rating from 56 guest reviews on Sykes - a strong track record for a couple's retreat in one of Cornwall's quieter coastal parishes.

The single bedroom has a king-size bed, and the bathroom includes a freestanding bath. A wood-burning stove and open fire warm the living space through cooler months, and the BBQ and garden extend the season outdoors in summer. EV charging is available on site alongside parking, wifi, dishwasher, and washing machine. Dogs are welcome.

Porthallow sits at the edge of the Lizard AONB, with the Five Pilchards pub at the top of its shingle beach and the South West Coast Path running both directions from the cove. Ponsence Cove is about 1.7 miles south along the coast path, and Porthoustock Beach is around 1.8 miles - both reached easily on foot. The Manacles reef, a well-known scuba diving site with centuries of shipwrecks, lies just offshore. Manaccan village, with a pub and Norman church, is about 2 miles west. Helston is roughly 6 miles north and Falmouth about 6 miles beyond that.

Good for: couples wanting a quiet base with real fires and good walking, divers visiting the Manacles, and dog owners. Less suited to families with children or guests needing urban amenities nearby.
