Upper Chandlers Cottage

Three-bedroom cottage in Mousehole (pronounced "Mowzle") sleeping six, tucked into the winding lanes above the harbour with a rooftop terrace looking down over the quay. Mousehole Beach is 200 metres away.

The lounge has both a wood burner and an open fire, with whitewashed walls and exposed roof trusses giving the inside a working-cottage feel. Three bedrooms share two bathrooms - workable for a family of six or two couples plus children. A dishwasher, washing machine and wifi are included.

Mousehole's harbour, with the Ship Inn, the Rock Pool cafe and a couple of galleries, is a short walk downhill. The village's December harbour lights and Tom Bawcock's Eve (23 December, stargazy pie at the Ship) draw winter visitors county-wide. The South West Coast Path leaves south to Lamorna Cove (1.9 miles) and north 1 mile to Newlyn fishing port. The Minack Theatre at Porthcurno and St Michael's Mount at Marazion are both within a short drive.

Penzance, with its mainline rail terminus and the year-round Scilly ferry, is 3 miles north. Land's End sits roughly 8 miles further west.

Best for a family of six wanting a village base with character, two fires, and a terrace for evening drinks above the harbour. Less good for guests with limited mobility - the cottage has both external and internal stairs, and Mousehole's lanes climb steeply from quay to top of village.
