Wax, Watergate

Wax, Watergate is an apartment above the Wax bar and restaurant at Watergate Bay, about 3 miles north of Newquay on the north Cornwall coast. Sea views come with the position - the apartment overlooks Watergate Bay beach, a 2-mile west-facing stretch with consistent surf and RNLI lifeguard cover in summer.

The apartment includes Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, parking, and sea-view rooms. Dogs are welcome. The Wax restaurant below serves food and drinks with views over the bay, and caters for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. The wider bay has the Extreme Academy on the beach for surfing, kitesurfing, and paddleboarding, and The Beach Hut cafe right on the sand.

Whipsiderry Beach is about 1.3 miles south and Mawgan Porth - a quieter family beach with a surf school - is about 1.5 miles north. Newquay town beaches, shops, and further restaurants are a short drive south.

Best for: couples or small groups who want to be directly on a surf beach with sea views and a restaurant downstairs, and who plan to spend most of their time in and around the bay. Less good for: guests wanting a self-contained kitchen-and-garden cottage setup - facilities here are apartment-style with the focus on the beach and dining.
