Whitecroft Lake is a Scandinavian-style lodge for two within 50 acres of farmland and woodland near North Tamerton. It has one bedroom and one bathroom, and the setting rather than the floor plan is the reason to book.

Guests have exclusive lake access for paddleboarding and fishing - bring or arrange your own kit - plus use of an indoor heated pool and a hot tub, an unusual pairing for a two-person stay at this price. Parking, a barbecue and a fire pit are provided, and up to two dogs are accepted. There is no Wi-Fi, dishwasher or washing machine, which fits the off-grid character but needs planning for longer stays. Prices start from £501 per week.

The coast is a genuine outing rather than a stroll: Widemouth Bay is 10.4 miles away, Summerleaze Beach is 10.7 miles and Crooklets Beach is 10.9 miles, with Bude around 12 miles by road for all three plus the South West Coast Path.
