Liskeard is a working market town with a weekly pannier market, independent shops, and a railway station on the Liskeard to Looe branch line - a scenic single-track service that runs down the valley to Looe harbour and back several times daily. The station is useful for a car-free day to the coast.

Golitha Falls is around 6 miles away on the edge of Bodmin Moor - a National Trust woodland waterfall site with a flat riverside path through ancient oak woodland that stays accessible in wet weather. Carnglaze Caverns are a similar distance, a set of slate caverns with an underground lake open for tours. Both make good half-day options when the weather does not suit a beach. The nearest coast - Plaidy Beach and East Looe Beach - is 13-14km south and reachable in under 25 minutes by car.

This lodge is ideal for couples or families with dogs who want an inland Cornwall base with easy access to east coast beaches and Bodmin Moor. The Looe Valley Line gives coast access without parking. Less good for those whose holiday is primarily beach-focused - at 13km from the nearest sand, the coast is a drive rather than a walk, and the beaches around Looe are smaller than those further west.
