Anchors Away

Anchors Away is a one-bedroom couples' cottage in Downderry on the south-east Cornwall coast, between Looe and Plymouth. The single-storey-style open-plan layout and private patio set it apart from the terraced rows that make up most of the village.

The cottage covers a double bedroom, a single bathroom, and an open-plan living and dining space with a galley kitchen. Compact rather than spacious - this is a let built for two adults, not a couple plus visitors. Wifi runs throughout. Ground-floor access makes it workable for guests with limited mobility. Dogs are welcome.

Outside there is a private patio garden with an outdoor dining table, plus off-street parking. Downderry beach sits a short walk down through the village - south-facing pebble and sand, sheltered from north winds, and a mile of sand at low tide. Seaton beach is 2 miles west and stays dog-friendly year-round. The Inn on the Shore pub is a few minutes on foot for waterfront food.

Pricing is a flat GBP 707/week year-round with Friday changeovers, which makes it good value at peak season. Best for a quiet couples' break with a dog. Less good for anyone wanting nightlife - Downderry has one pub and a village shop, with Looe (5 miles) the nearest place for evening choice.
