Artist Residence Cornwall

Artist Residence Cornwall is a boutique hotel occupying a 17th-century building on Chapel Street, one of Penzance’s oldest streets, half a mile from the train station and a 5-minute walk from the seafront promenade.

Each room is individually designed in an eclectic, rustic style and includes a flat-screen satellite TV, private bathroom, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Some rooms feature statement bathtubs and log burners; note that rooms are reached by stairs only, with no lift. Wifi is included throughout.

The ground-floor Cornish Barn Smokehouse and Bar serves an all-day menu of smoked meats, Cornish fish and seafood, and local produce. In summer the adjoining festival garden opens for cocktails and food from the BBQ smokehouse, with table tennis and foosball available. Chapel Street itself has independent restaurants, galleries, and the Grade I-listed Egyptian House within a short walk. The Art Deco Jubilee Pool lido - at 300 feet the largest seawater lido in the UK, with a geothermally heated pool kept at 28 to 30 degrees - is a 10-minute walk along the promenade. Eastern Green Beach is about 1.5 miles east, with views across Mount’s Bay to St Michael’s Mount.

**Best for:** Couples or solo travellers after a hotel with distinct character and a quality on-site restaurant in the centre of Penzance. **Less good for:** Families with children or guests with mobility needs (stairs only).
