Atlantic Watch 8

The hot tub is the draw at Atlantic Watch 8, a semi-detached villa on the seaward-facing side of Carbis Bay. It sits on the terrace with outdoor furniture, and the living area looks over St Ives Bay. The tub is drained, cleaned and refilled at every changeover, so it may not be up to temperature on arrival day.

The layout is reverse-level. Both bedrooms are on the ground floor: a king-size and a twin with an en-suite walk-in shower. The ground-floor bathroom has a bath, a handheld shower and a separate walk-in shower. The open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area is on the first floor, with a cloakroom, a dishwasher, a washer/dryer and Sky Cinema. The corner sofa seats six.

Getting in takes eight tiled steps from the parking area to the front door, and twelve more inside between the floors. Parking is one car in an allocated tarmac space beside those steps. The beach is 0.2 miles away, the shop 0.3 miles and the pub 0.8 miles. In winter there are no Sunday check-ins, and in peak season check-in is on Saturday only. A cot and highchair are provided; guests bring their own linen for the cot.

It suits a couple or young family who want a hot tub and a sea view. The steps outside and between floors make it less good for anyone who finds stairs hard, and pets and smoking are not allowed.
