Crantock Beach is 1.1km from the cottage - a wide south-west-facing bay at the mouth of the Gannel estuary, with dunes behind the sand and a seasonal cafe. Bodyboarders use the Gannel channel side when the main beach faces onshore wind. Fistral Beach, one of Britain's best-known surf spots, is 1.8km further into Newquay. Vugga Cove, a quieter cove at the far end of Crantock Beach, is also 1.8km.

Crantock village has a pub, a post office, and a 15th-century church. Newquay centre is around 4km and has the nearest supermarkets, cinema, and train station with connections to London Paddington via Par.
