Crantock Beach is 0.7 miles from the cottage - a wide south-west-facing bay at the mouth of the Gannel estuary, with dunes behind the sand and a seasonal cafe. Bodyboarders use the Gannel channel side when the main beach faces onshore wind. Fistral Beach, one of Britain's best-known surf spots, is 1.1 miles further into Newquay. Vugga Cove, a quieter cove at the far end of Crantock Beach, is also 1.1 miles.

Crantock village has a pub, a post office, and a 15th-century church. Newquay centre is around 2.5 miles and has the nearest supermarkets, cinema, and train station with connections to London Paddington via Par.

Best for families or groups of friends who want a dog-friendly village base within walking distance of two contrasting beaches. Less good for guests who dislike stair access or need a no-dogs guarantee. Saturday changeover.
