Chy-an-Lowena

Chy-an-Lowena is a dog-friendly, five-bedroom cottage on Beach Road in Crantock with sea views - a proper family-sized base on one of north Cornwall's quieter stretches of coast.

The five bedrooms sleep up to 10, with a lounge and family rooms giving larger groups enough space to spread out. A wood burner warms the living area on cooler evenings. The kitchen comes fully equipped with a dishwasher, and there is a washing machine for longer stays. WiFi covers the whole property.

Outside, a garden with BBQ and outdoor seating faces the coast. Free private parking on site is a genuine advantage - Crantock's National Trust car park behind the dunes fills early in summer and charges daily.

Crantock Beach, a broad sand beach backed by dunes and managed by the National Trust, is a short walk from the front door. The Gannel Estuary behind the beach is a tidal creek popular with kayakers and paddleboarders. Crantock village has a 13th-century church, the Old Albion pub, and a small shop, with a noticeably calmer feel than Newquay just 2 miles across the estuary. Fistral Beach and Newquay Zoo are about 3 miles north.

Best for family groups of up to 10 with children happy in bunks and twins; less suited to those wanting Newquay's livelier nightlife, since Crantock keeps a calmer pace than its neighbour across the estuary.
