Hayle itself has a supermarket, independent shops, and the RSPB Hayle Estuary reserve, where avocets and spoonbills overwinter. The estuary is one of the best birdwatching sites in west Cornwall, and a 10-minute walk from the town centre. The rail station at St Erth connects directly to St Ives on the branch line.
