Liskeard is a 10-minute drive, with the Looe Valley Line branch railway connecting the town to Looe in around 30 minutes. Carnglaze Caverns, a former slate quarry with underground lakes, is a few miles west. The South East Cornwall coast is within easy range as a day trip from this inland base.
Best for: dog owners wanting a quiet base; those using Cornwall's interior as a base to explore both coast and countryside. Less good for: guests wanting to walk to a beach or those expecting a coastal feel.
