Poldhu

Poldhu is a shepherd's hut for two in Buryas Bridge, a hamlet on the rural edge of Newlyn and Penzance. A path of stone steps climbs to it through dense planting that is lit in the evening, and a large wooden deck at the front has a BBQ.

Inside, the hut is wood-panelled, with a double bed, a dining area, a kitchen and a separate shower room with a walk-in shower. Dogs are welcome, though not on the furniture or in the bedroom area, and the garden is enclosed. There is wifi and one marked parking space on the front drive. There are 18 steps up to the front door, and everything inside is on one level.

Mousehole is 2.2 miles away - the small harbour village known for its light display each December and the Star Inn on the harbourfront. Eastern Green Beach is 2.7 miles, useful for a dog walk along the Penzance seafront. Lamorna Cove is 3.1 miles south, a sheltered inlet with good swimming off the rocks at high tide. Penzance itself has the Penlee House gallery and the Jubilee Pool, Britain's last working Art Deco lido. Polgoon Vineyard is a three-minute drive, and Trewidden Garden is on the doorstep.

Best for couples who want a quiet base for West Penwith and the South West Coast Path between Mousehole and Lamorna. Less good for groups of more than two, or anyone who cannot manage steps.
