Rock is across the Camel Estuary, reachable by water taxi in summer. The coast path north from Polzeath reaches Pentire Point and The Rumps headland within 2 miles. Daymer Bay is 2.1km - calmer water and popular with families.

Best for: couples or small families with a dog who want a village-centre base for a surf holiday. Less good for: groups of four wanting more than one bathroom, or anyone who needs dedicated parking directly outside.
