Radfords Cottage

A small village on the banks of the River Camel, Egloshayle was once a thriving port that rivalled Padstow for its trade in tin, clay and wool. Today it’s a country parish just off the road connecting Wadebridge to Bodmin, with whitewashed cottages, a centuries-old church and pub, and Pencarrow House, a Georgian property with Grade II-listed gardens. Wadebridge is less than a mile away; the 18-mile Camel Trail links the town to Padstow and Bodmin, and Rock is 7 miles away.

Located on a quiet lane uphill of the parish church, this pretty cottage has a wonderful sense of light and space, its period features complemented by a tasteful renovation. Steps up from the street lead into a blue-and-white lounge with painted beams and a wood burner in an inglenook fireplace, then on to an open-plan kitchen/diner with a country-style dining suite and French doors to the garden. Windows, rooflight and recessed lighting keep the space bright. The ground-floor bathroom, typical of a cottage this age, has sleek fixtures and a dual rainfall shower over its bath. Stairs from the lounge lead to a first-floor bedroom that spans the whole floor, with a king-size bed, beamed ceiling and pastel colour scheme.

A sun-trap garden at the rear of the cottage is enclosed by fencing and features a lawned area alongside a lovely patio with decking in one corner, furniture and a BBQ. Enjoy breakfast to the sounds of the countryside, or a nightcap beneath the stars!

Best for couples wanting a quiet countryside base with a wood burner and private garden, and dog owners - up to two dogs are welcome. Less good for guests who need step-free access, since the only bedroom is reached via stairs from the lounge.
