Radfords Cottage
cottage in Wadebridge
A sun-trap garden at the rear of the cottage is enclosed by fencing and features a lawned area alongside a lovely patio with decking in one corner.
A small village on the banks of the River Camel, Egloshayle was once a thriving port that rivalled Padstow for its trade in tin, clay and wool. Today it’s a country parish just off the road connecting Wadebridge to Bodmin, its peaceful lanes home to whitewashed cottages, a centuries-old church and pub, as well as Pencarrow House, a splendid Georgian property with Grade II-listed gardens. With Wadebridge less than a mile away, this is a great location for exploring Cornwall; the 18-mile Camel Trail links the town to Padstow and Bodmin, and upmarket Rock is just 7 miles away.
Located on a quiet lane uphill of the parish church, this pretty cottage has a wonderful sense of light and space, its period features complemented by a tasteful renovation and high-quality furnishings. Climb the steps up from the street and you’re welcomed by a striking blue-and-white lounge with painted beams, a wood burner in an inglenook fireplace and seating that you will want to curl up on as soon as you’ve settled in. Steps lead from here to an open-plan kitchen/diner, where there’s every modern convenience, a country-style dining suite and French doors to the garden. With windows, rooflight and recessed lighting, this is a space you’ll want to linger in long after dinner has been eaten. As is typical of cottages of this age, the bathroom is on the ground floor; with sleek fixtures and a dual rainfall shower over its bath, this is another room that has both style and substance. Stairs from the lounge lead straight into a bedroom which occupies the whole of the first-floor space. With a king-size bed, beamed ceiling and a soothing pastel colour scheme, there’s plenty of space for you to unpack and make yourself at home.
A sun-trap garden at the rear of the cottage is enclosed by fencing and features a lawned area alongside a lovely patio with decking in one corner, furniture and a BBQ. Enjoy breakfast to the sounds of the countryside, or a nightcap beneath the stars!
