Porthmeor runs about 500 metres and faces north-west, picking up Atlantic swell and making it the better beach in St Ives for surfing. Tate St Ives sits above the west end of the beach and offers a programme of contemporary exhibitions year-round. St Ives Harbour Beach and Porthminster are both within 400-500 metres in the other direction, and the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden is about a 10-minute walk through the town.

The old town - its narrow lanes, fish restaurants, galleries, and pubs - is on foot from the cottage. Changeover is Saturday.
