Rose In Vale Country House Hotel

Country house hotel set in 10 acres in the village of Mithian, between St Agnes and Perranporth. A fishpond, a stream crossed by a footbridge, and grounds with ducks and wandering paths surround a family-owned hotel that grew from a 12th-century long cottage, still visible in the bar and snug.

The outdoor pool measures 10 by 4 metres and reaches 1.3 metres at its deepest end, heated by solar panels and open from the late May bank holiday to mid September for overnight residents only. WiFi, parking and a garden terrace are included. This is an adults-only, pet-free house — leave four-legged companions at home. A restaurant, bar and lounge cover evening meals and drinks, with a sun-trap patio next to the stream for warmer days.

Trevaunance Cove is about 1.6 miles away and Perranporth's 3-mile beach a short drive further on, both on the north Cornwall coast between St Agnes Head and the surf breaks further west. Mithian itself has houses three to four hundred years old built of cob and thatch, and the 16th-century Miners Arms pub is a 5-minute walk from the hotel grounds.

Best for couples wanting a quiet base with grounds to walk and a pool for summer stays. Less good for anyone travelling outside the May-to-September pool season expecting to swim.
