Polzeath's surf beach - one of the most consistent on the north coast - is 1.4km, making this a practical base for a mixed group where some want surf and others want calm water. Rock is across the estuary, reached by the foot ferry from Padstow.

St Enodoc Church, where the poet John Betjeman is buried, is set among the golf course dunes a short walk from the cottage. The Rock and Mariners pubs are within easy reach on foot or by bike.

Best for families or groups of 7 who want multiple beach types within walking distance, plus the facilities of a well-equipped house. The 3 bathrooms make this practical for larger groups.
