The Rame Peninsula is the south-east corner of Cornwall, often overlooked despite being within 20 minutes of Plymouth via the Torpoint ferry. Kingsand and Cawsand, the twin villages with a shared sheltered beach and several pub-restaurants, are 2.6km and 2.7km respectively. Whitsand Bay - a long arc of cliff-backed sand totalling around 3 miles - is 3.1km and reached via a steep descent. The Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, with formal gardens and coastal walks, is across the peninsula.

Kingsand and Cawsand make a good base for exploring the quieter side of Cornwall. Best for couples or small families with dogs who want a hot tub, access to sheltered cove beaches, and the option of Plymouth for a day out. The Rame Peninsula is genuinely less crowded than most of Cornwall in summer. Less good for guests expecting to be within walking distance of the beach - Kingsand requires a short drive and Whitsand Bay involves a cliff descent. No dishwasher or washing machine on site.
