Porkellis itself has a pub - the Star Inn - and a handful of houses. The countryside between here and Falmouth is mostly farmed granite plateau with old mining settlements. Helston is around 5 miles east, with its Flora Day tradition and independent shops. Stithians Reservoir and its sailing club are under 2 miles away.
