Temple Cottage
Port Isaac village cottage with open fire, 600m from Port Gaverne beach
Temple Cottage sits on Dolphin Street in the centre of Port Isaac - the tightly packed fishing village on the north Cornwall coast that became widely known from the TV series Doc Martin. The stone-built cottage has two bedrooms sleeping four across a double and a twin, with one bathroom. An open fire in the living room makes it a reasonable choice for off-season visits when the village is quieter.
WiFi, parking, a dishwasher, and a washing machine are all included - a complete set of practical amenities that few village-centre cottages manage given the age of the buildings. The property has 27 guest reviews on Sykes. Friday changeover.
The village is genuinely compact - Dolphin Street runs to the harbour in minutes. The Platt, the slipway area where the Fisherman's Friends traditionally sing on Friday evenings in summer, is a short walk. Nathan Outlaw's restaurant operates on the harbourside, alongside several cafes and a bakery. There are also two pubs serving food.
Port Gaverne Beach is 600 metres east along a lane - a small, sheltered cove that was historically used by fishing boats for landing catches. It is quieter than the village and less known to passing visitors. Tregardock Beach, accessed via a steep cliff path, is 5.5km north and worth the effort on a clear day. Polzeath, a surf beach popular with families, is 6.5km south.
The South West Coast Path runs directly through the village, connecting north to Tintagel and south to Padstow.
Suits couples or small families who want a central village position with genuine character. Not great for large groups or those wanting beach access within a short walk of the front door.
