The Annexe, Laburnum

The Annexe at Laburnum is a ground-floor one-bedroom cottage attached to a larger property at Rescorla, near Bugle. Two guests sleep in one bedroom with one bathroom. The ground-floor layout and accessible design features make it one of the more practical options in mid-Cornwall for guests with mobility requirements - most Cornish holiday lets occupy older, multi-storey buildings with steps.

The courtyard garden provides outside space. WiFi and off-road parking are included. There is no dishwasher or washing machine, which is worth noting for stays of a week or more. Saturday changeover.

Bugle sits in Cornwall's china clay district - the white pyramid tips of the St Austell clay works are visible from the surrounding roads, and the landscape here has a distinctive industrial character that contrasts with the coast. The village itself has a pub and basic amenities.

The Eden Project is roughly 4 miles south at Bodelva - the biome complex that opened in 2001 in a reclaimed clay pit. Tickets are required in advance during peak season. Carlyon Bay is 5.6km, a long south-facing beach with a hotel and watersports facilities. Charlestown Beach, at the Georgian harbour village, is 6km.

The Luxulyan Valley is a short drive from the cottage - a wooded World Heritage Site that contains one of the finest early 19th-century granite viaducts in Cornwall, built as part of the Treffry mineral railway. It is one of the quieter heritage sites in the area and rarely crowded even in summer.
