The Annexe, Laburnum

The Annexe at Laburnum is a ground-floor one-bedroom cottage attached to a larger property at Rescorla, near Bugle. Two guests sleep in one bedroom with one bathroom. Everything is on the ground floor of a single-storey annexe attached to a larger property.

The courtyard garden provides outside space. WiFi and off-road parking are included. Saturday changeover.

Bugle sits in Cornwall's china clay district - the white pyramid tips of the St Austell clay works are visible from the surrounding roads, and the landscape here has a distinctive industrial character that contrasts with the coast. The village itself has a pub and basic amenities.

The Eden Project is roughly 4 miles south at Bodelva - the biome complex that opened in 2001 in a reclaimed clay pit. Tickets are required in advance during peak season. Carlyon Bay is 3.5 miles, a long south-facing beach with a hotel and watersports facilities. Charlestown Beach, at the Georgian harbour village, is 3.7 miles.

The Luxulyan Valley is a short drive from the cottage - a wooded World Heritage Site that contains one of the finest early 19th-century granite viaducts in Cornwall, built as part of the Treffry mineral railway. It is one of the quieter heritage sites in the area and rarely crowded even in summer.

St Austell town is about 5 miles south for supermarkets and a wider range of services.

Right for couples who want a base for mid-Cornwall attractions. Guests who need step-free access should check with the owner before booking. Not great for those who want beach access or an evening walk into a village.
