The Clock House at Heligan Gardens

The Clock House is a three-bedroom holiday house within the private grounds of the Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey, sleeping six. The property forms part of the Manor House stable block - one side of a cobbled courtyard in the estate's private section. Original 18th-century features survive throughout: high ceilings, large sash windows, and the restored slate-hung clock tower with its working clock face and preserved weather vane.

Three bedrooms sleep six - a 5ft king-size double and two twin rooms, each with zip-linked singles that convert to a 6ft double. The house is furnished to a high standard and private parking is available in the courtyard.

The Heligan Gardens entrance is a short walk away - 80 acres of restored Victorian gardens, the largest restoration project in Europe. Lobbs Farm Shop is also within easy walking distance. Pentewan Beach is 2.2km away, and the fishing village of Mevagissey is just over 2 miles - shops, restaurants, and a seasonal passenger ferry to Fowey. Gorran Haven, with its safe family bathing beach, is a 10-minute drive. The Eden Project is around 30 minutes by car.

Best for garden enthusiasts, families with younger children, and anyone wanting a rural base close to the south coast's beaches without paying harbour-front prices. Less good for those who need the beach within walking distance - a car is essential.
