The Granary, Engollan

The Granary is a converted barn in the hamlet of Engollan, near St Merryn, and it is laid out in reverse. You enter up stone-faced steps to a porch and a stable door, and the living space is upstairs: a sitting room with a vaulted ceiling, exposed pitch-pine beams and a woodburning stove, and a kitchen and dining area with a farmhouse table. Large windows look over open countryside, with glimpses of the sea.

The three bedrooms are downstairs, typically reached by an internal staircase: a double with an en-suite walk-in shower, basin, heated towel rail and WC, a second double, and a single. The family bathroom has a rain shower over the bath. The barn sleeps five. Fuel and power, bed linen and towels are included in the rent. A cot, highchair and stairgate are available.

Outside is a lawned garden with a patio, furniture and a barbecue, and off-road parking takes two cars. The shop is 2.3 miles away and the pub 3.4 miles, so a car is needed. The South West Coast Path is close by, with Porthcothan Bay to the north. Pets are not allowed, and the barn is no smoking.

The steps at the entrance and the staircase between the living space and the bedrooms make it less good for anyone who finds stairs difficult, and it suits walkers and a family of up to five. Porthcothan Bay is close by, and Padstow is 2 miles from St Merryn.
