The Old Cows House

The Old Cows House is a converted cowshed at Higher Dacum Farm, near Porkellis village, sitting between Helston and Falmouth in west Cornwall. The cottage sleeps 2 in 1 bedroom with 1 bathroom, and opens directly onto a garden with access to countryside walks. One dog is welcome.

The interior includes WiFi, a washing machine, and off-road parking. The conversion retains the compact proportions of its original farm structure - suited to a couple wanting a quiet base rather than a larger group.

Helston is a short drive south - the market town best known for its annual Flora Day Furry Dance on 8 May, when four separate processions fill the streets. Porthleven's working harbour, with well-regarded restaurants on the harbourside, is about 4 miles south. Falmouth, with Pendennis Castle, the National Maritime Museum, and a good high street, is roughly 20 minutes east. The farm lies in the lower reaches of the Carnmenellis upland, a largely undeveloped area of moorland and small farms between the Helford River valley and Camborne. Helford Passage beach, with the Ferryboat Inn and river swimming, is about 5.5 miles southeast.

**Best for:** Couples wanting a rural base close to Helston and Porthleven, dog owners needing direct garden and countryside access, anyone attending Flora Day or events around the Helford.

**Less good for:** Groups larger than 2, guests needing a dishwasher, or those wanting coastal views or beach proximity (nearest beach is around a 15-minute drive).
