The Organ Loft

The Organ Loft is a two-bedroom cottage sleeping four on the western edge of Bodmin Moor, converted from the organ loft and pulpit of a 19th-century chapel in the village of St Breward. It's one of two holiday homes made from the original building. The cottage scores 9.6 from 23 guest reviews.

Inside, the conversion keeps original chapel features alongside modern fittings. Two bedrooms and one bathroom, with wifi, a dishwasher and a washing machine included. A feature spiral staircase links the floors, and one medium-sized dog is welcome. The private garden and parking sit off a quiet country lane.

Two miles north along the lanes, the Camel Trail starts at Wenford Bridge - a traffic-free route for walkers and cyclists running west to Wadebridge and Padstow, or east to Bodmin. St Breward's Old Inn, one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall dating to the 11th century, and the parish church are both within 10 minutes on foot. Wadebridge, Camelford and Bodmin are each around 20 minutes by car for supermarkets and services.

The north Cornwall coast sits about 10 miles west, with beaches at Polzeath, Daymer Bay, Harlyn and Trebarwith Strand within reach. Port Isaac and Tintagel are under 30 minutes by road. Prices from £507 per week.

Best for walkers, cyclists and those wanting genuine moor surroundings rather than a coastal base. Less good for beach-first holidays - the coast requires a drive, and the lane approach to St Breward is narrow.
