The Rest House

The Rest House is a restored one-bedroom barn in the parish of St Levan, on the far south-west tip of Cornwall's Penwith peninsula, sleeping 2 in a double bedroom with 1 bathroom. The building has been converted to keep its original character - exposed stone, a walled courtyard garden, and a wood burner that doubles as a small oven. An open fire supplements the wood burner. The walk-in shower, WiFi, and parking are included. Dogs are welcome. From £404 per night.

The location is one of the most remote in Cornwall, in a positive sense. Porthcurno is 0.9 miles on foot - a white-sand beach with famously clear water enclosed by granite cliffs, and the Minack Theatre cut into the cliff above it. The Minack hosts open-air theatrical performances through the summer months, with the sea as a backdrop. Pedn Vounder, a less accessible but equally dramatic sandy cove, is 1.2 miles. Porthchapel Beach, a further quiet cove popular with local swimmers, is also 1.2 miles.

The property borders the grounds of an old churchyard, which sets its tone - this is a place for quiet, contemplative stays rather than a party base. Best for couples or solo travellers who want direct access to the South West Coast Path and West Penwith's Atlantic-facing beaches. Less good for guests who want a town nearby - the nearest amenities are in Porthcurno village, and anything larger requires a drive to Penzance.
