Lostwithiel, with its medieval bridge and Restormel Castle, is about 2 miles north, and Fowey is roughly 5 miles south along the river.

Readymoney Cove is the nearest named beach at 4.7 miles, a sandy, sheltered cove below Fowey with St Catherine's Castle on the headland. Lantic Bay is 5.0 miles away, a National Trust bay reached by a steep 20 to 30-minute walk, and Lansallos Beach is also 5.0 miles off, a remote cove reached only on foot with clear water for swimming.
