Adelaide

Adelaide is a single-storey lodge in Portreath, on the Gwel an Mor holiday park. Its centrepiece is the enclosed wrap-around terrace, reached through bi-fold doors from the living room. It holds a private hot tub, furniture, sun loungers and an outside shower, and the deck has sea views with rolling countryside beyond. The hot tub is drained, cleaned and refilled on every changeover, so it may not be up to temperature on arrival day.

Inside, the open-plan living space has a kitchen, dining area and a sitting area with a woodburning stove, and the starter pack for the stove is included in the rent. There are three bedrooms: a king-size with a TV and en-suite walk-in rain shower, a twin with zip-linked beds that can become a super king on request, and a second twin. The family bathroom has a bath with a rain shower over. An air source heat pump provides underfloor heating and air conditioning.

Guests have free use of the gym, pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi in the main building at reception, subject to availability. The park also has tennis courts and the Terrace Restaurant. A highchair and travel cot are available but must be requested when booking. One well-behaved pet is welcome for an extra charge. Smoking is not allowed.

Parking is designated for one car, with more off-road spaces in the overflow car park. The shop is 1.3 miles away, the pub 1.4 miles and the beach 1.1 miles. In school holidays the lodge only takes seven-night bookings. Adelaide suits a family or two couples who want a hot tub and park facilities on tap, and is less good for anyone hoping to bring a second pet.
