Avalenn Cottage is a split-level townhouse on a quiet residential street a short walk from Wadebridge town centre. It sleeps 4 across 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, with a few steps down past an apple tree to the front door.

Inside, the mid-level hallway leads past the bathroom, then down six steps to the two bedrooms. Another six steps up from the hallway reach a sitting room with views across the Camel estuary, and a galley kitchen sits a few steps above that, overlooking the dining area below. Wi-Fi and parking are included and dogs are welcome, though there's no dishwasher, wood burner or hot tub. A small enclosed rear garden gives space for a drink outside.

Wadebridge's pubs, restaurants and independent shops are a short stroll away, along with direct access to the Camel Trail cycle path. Port Isaac, where Doc Martin was filmed, and the beaches at Daymer Bay and Polzeath are a short drive north: Daymer Bay is 5.3 miles, Port Gaverne Beach 5.6 miles and Greenaway Beach 5.7 miles. Padstow's restaurants are 8 miles away, and Rock, sometimes nicknamed Britain's Saint-Tropez, is 6 miles.

Best for couples or small families wanting a walkable base near Wadebridge's shops and the Camel Trail, plus dog owners since dogs are welcome. Less good for guests who struggle with stairs, since the split-level layout has three separate flights between the door, bedrooms, sitting room and kitchen, or anyone wanting a dishwasher or hot tub, since neither is fitted.
