Bayside

Bayside has an upside-down layout: the sitting room with its woodburning stove is at the top, the kitchen/diner sits half a flight below, four bedrooms fill the middle of the house and the fifth is in the basement. It stands in Parc Owles in Carbis Bay, with sea views across the bay towards Godrevy Lighthouse from the living areas and four of the five bedrooms. The kitchen has a balcony, and the master bedroom and bedroom two each open onto a sea-facing terrace of their own.

The house sleeps ten adults. The super-king master has an en-suite bath, bedroom two is a king, and bedrooms three and five have zip-and-link beds that can be set up as a twin or a super-king, with requests made at least seven days before arrival. Bedroom four has a bunk bed. Beyond the en-suite there is a family bathroom with a bath and shower, a lower-ground-floor shower room and a cloakroom. A basement games room has an Xbox One S, and a highchair and travel cot are provided, though you bring your own cot bedding.

The garden is enclosed and set over several levels, with a terrace, a barbecue and a seven-person hot tub. The tub is drained and refilled at every changeover, so it may not be warm enough to use on arrival day. Two well-behaved pets are welcome. The bottom of the garden has a six-foot fence, but hedges on either side mean a dog could still get next door. Off-road parking takes four cars, and eleven steps lead down a sloped drive to the front door.

Bayside is ideal for a large family or a group of friends with teenagers, and it suits dog owners. It is less good for anyone who finds stairs or steps hard going. The shop and pub are 0.5 miles away and the beach is 0.2 miles. No smoking.
