Chain Locker 9 Church Place

Chain Locker is a four-storey period cottage tucked into the Downalong fishing quarter of St Ives, sleeping four across a top-floor king-size room with en-suite and a first-floor twin. Three bathrooms serve just two bedrooms, an unusual ratio for a cottage this size.

The ground floor combines kitchen and living space around an electric wood burner-effect fire, with a dishwasher for the washing up. A second lounge in the basement opens onto a private cobbled lane, giving the group another place to sit. Wi-Fi and a washing machine are included. The first-floor twin bedroom shares a family bathroom, and there is a shower room with WC in the basement. The top-floor king-size room has a contemporary en-suite shower room with rooftop views over the town and a glimpse of the sea. Climbing four floors of stairs is part of daily life here.

Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum are both a few minutes' walk away. Porthmeor Beach and St Ives Harbour Beach are each 200 metres from the door, and Porthgwidden Beach is 300 metres. The St Ives guide has more on the town's galleries and harbour.

Dogs are not accepted. **Best for:** a family or friends wanting three bathrooms and central St Ives within a couple of minutes' walk. **Less good for:** guests who struggle with stairs.
