Corner Cottage

Corner Cottage is a one-bedroom cottage in Porthgwarra, the small hamlet near the western tip of Penwith. It sleeps two, accepts dogs, and sits just 300m from the cove where a rock tunnel was cut through the headland to haul boats up from the beach. Off-street parking is included.

Inside, the cottage has an open fire - useful year-round in Penwith, where evenings cool quickly even in summer. One bathroom, WiFi, and a garden complete the setup. No dishwasher or washing machine, so it's a practical fit for a short break rather than a fortnight with kit.

Porthgwarra beach is 300m - mostly boulders and coarse sand, better for snorkelling and rock pooling than swimming. Porthchapel beach, a quiet sand-and-rock cove, is 800m along the coast path. Porthcurno, one of Cornwall's clearest-water beaches, is 0.7 miles east with the Minack Theatre carved into the cliffs above it. Gwennap Head - the mainland's most south-westerly point - is a 20-minute walk, with good seabird watching in spring and autumn migration. Land's End is about 3 miles west.

Best for: couples or solo walkers who want remote far-west Cornwall, dogs welcome, no car needed for the coast path. Less good for: those wanting village life or evening dining - St Buryan (3 miles inland) has the nearest pub, and Penzance is 9 miles east.
