Portreath Beach is just 300 metres away - a sandy beach with reliable surf and RNLI lifeguard cover in summer. Rock pools form at the western end at low tide. Godrevy Beach, the wide National Trust beach that inspired Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, is 4.8 miles along the coast. The cottage has its own garden and parking.

Portreath marks one end of the Coast to Coast mineral tramway cycle route to Devoran on the Fal estuary, popular with cyclists and walkers. The village has ties to Cornwall's copper mining past - the harbour was built to import coal and export ore. Porthtowan and the mining coast between Camborne and St Agnes are within easy reach. Prices start from £6,063 per week, with Saturday changeover.

Best for a large group wanting sea views across three bathrooms, 300 metres from Portreath Beach. Less good for budget travellers - the weekly rate starts at £6,063.
