The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum, which tells the story of the undersea cable network that once ran from here to India and Australia, is less than five minutes' walk. Logan Rock, a large balanced granite boulder on the headland, is accessible along the coast path.

Porthchapel Beach is 800m to the east - quieter than Porthcurno and less visited. Pedn Vounder, a flat-rock beach accessible by a steep path, is 1.1km. The nearest shops and fuel are in St Buryan, about 3 miles inland, so it is worth stocking up before arriving.

Suits couples or a small family after a genuine West Cornwall beach base where two or three of the county's most distinctive attractions are within ten minutes on foot. Less good for anyone who needs evening entertainment nearby - Porthcurno is quiet after hours. Saturday changeover.
